Want more new business leads?
Every business needs a steady stream of new business to continue growing, and it would be wonderful if these just dropped in your lap, as if by magic. But it rarely works that way. So smart business owners know they need some strategies to proactively find and attract new customers.
Although the idea of sales can strike fear in the heart of even the most confident business owners, the process of generating new leads doesn’t need to make you feel intimidated or uncomfortable. On the contrary, it can be a fantastic process for helping you to understand your own business and customers better.
Here's what you should do to get started:
1) Understand your customer’s problem
If your customer doesn’t need or want what you’re offering, you’re never going to make a sale. Simple as that. To successfully close a deal, you need to make sure you’re aligning yourself with the right customers and providing a solution to something they actually want or need. To do this, you really need to understand your customer. Who are they? What is the problem they’re trying to solve? And why should they trust you to help them solve this specific problem?
2) Demonstrate your solution
Once you’re clear on what your customer needs, you need to make sure that they understand what you’re offering and what you can do to help them. It’s absolutely essential that you can clearly show how your product or service provides a solution for the specific customer problem you’ve already identified. Join the dots for them and make it really clear that you can and will make their life easier and better in a very specific way – so much so, they’d be crazy to go anywhere else.
Note, this doesn’t need to mean you’re offering the lowest price for your product or service. But you need to make sure your customer understands that, in addition to solving their problem, you’re also giving them excellent value. Maybe your product or service will cost a little more than the competitors, but this might be because the quality is higher and you will solve their problem faster or for longer than anyone else. Make sure your offer is strong and more convincing than anyone else’s and your customer will agree that it’s a no brainer to give their money to you rather than to a competitor.
3) Establish your market dominating position (MDP)
I can’t stress this one enough – and all my regular readers know that this is one of the things I talk about most often because it’s that important. If your business blends into the market, you’ll never be able to get traction or the attention of your desired customers. Clarity is key. You need to be able to sum up what your business does in one or two clear sentences, and you need to make it stand out. Shine a light on your business and make sure your customers clearly understand what you actually do (not just what you make or sell).
For example, I currently sell a range of coaching and consulting courses, using different methods and strategies to achieve my business purpose BUT I’m actually in the business of helping businesses increase their sales, and maximise their cash flow so they can double their profits. That is my MDP. Figure out yours and you’ll be in a strong position to bring in more business in the future.
